Statement on Norfolk Public Schools Decision on Winter Sports for the 2020 – 2021 Season January 14, 2021
After careful review of current health conditions and metrics within Norfolk and our region, the administration has made the difficult decision to cancel winter sports for the 2020-2021 season. The Scholastic Bowl, in which students are competing virtually, will continue. As always, the health and safety of our students and staff continue to be our top priority. Please visit npsk12.com for the most up-to-date information regarding instructional plans and athletics during this time.
RETURN TO SPORTS UPDATE & GUIDELINES TO CONTINUE ATHLETICS:
Guidelines to begin on Monday, 12/14/20:
Health metrics will be reviewed daily:
1. Total number of new cases per 100,000 persons in the last 14 days
2. Percentage of RT-PCR tests that are positive during the last 14 days
If we remain in the current status of RED /ORANGE: Winter athletics can proceed ( RT-PCR less than 10%)
If we increase in both health metrics to RED/RED we pause athletics IMMEDIATELY
We return to athletics when Health metrics have less than 10% in RT-PCR for 7 consecutive days and color guide is red/orange or a lighter color of the health metric chart.
This will be monitored by the Senior Coordinator of Athletics. As soon as current daily figures come out all principals and AD’s will be notified on the status of athletics for the day.
As a reminder the concussion education information is online and has been updated for 2020-21 school year. This annual letter must be completed by the student and parent prior to participating for any team in the City. (HS/MS)
Physicals can now be accepted for the 2020-21 school year. A valid physical must be dated after May1,2020.
As we move through Covid19 NPS will update everyone on when we will be able to host onsite physicals. In the meantime student athletes are encouraged to visit their family physician or they could visit Velocity Urgent Care to have a physical completed.
